Travel
By Car
Please note that there is no parking available for visitors on the university precinct. The nearest car park is at the Clifton Down Shopping Centre, Whiteladies Road. However, arrangements can be made for those with accessibility needs, if you have not already stated the need for accessible parking on your registration form, please contact us at [email protected]
By Bus and Train
The central train station is Bristol Temple Meads. Bristol Parkway is a few miles out of the centre and the nearest suburban railway station to the University is Clifton Down, but services only run about once an hour.
- There are a number of websites you can use to purchase train tickets. The following is just one you may consider using; www.thetrainline.com
- From Temple Meads Railway Station take the bus service 9/9A and disembark outside The Hawthorns on Elton Road (otherwise it is a 30-45 min walk uphill). There are alternative routes that can be found by using the journey planner application http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/bristol_bath/journey_planning/maps/bristol.php
- The HUBS service (Hospital and University Bus service) provides a link for staff and visitors of the University between the University of Bristol, Bristol Temple Meads Train Station, the city centre, Bristol General Hospital and Bristol Royal Infirmary. It is a free service provided for University and Hospital staff and visitors and operates a continuous service between the hours of 6.35am - 5.45pm. However it is a good walk to the main university precinct from Clifton Hill House.
- There are taxi ranks outside both Temple Meads Railway Station and Marlborough Street Bus Station.
- From Marlborough Street Bus Station Clifton Hill House is a 25minute walk or take Bus X1 or X2 to
Hotwells, Merchants Road or Canon's Marsh, Gasferry Road (it's probably best to indicate the the bus driver where you are trying to get to) or again there should be taxis available.
By coach
Coaches from a range of UK cities arrive and depart from Bristol Bus and Coach Station on Marlborough Street in the centre of Bristol, which is about 15 minutes walk from the University precinct (PDF, 3.5Mb).
For information about coach times and fares, consult the National Express website. Additional coach services are operated by Megabus and Bakers Dolphin.
By plane
Bristol Airport is 13 km south of the city and has scheduled flights to many UK and European cities. To get to the University from the airport:
- The Bristol Flyer coach service calls at Bristol Bus and Coach Station near the University precinct
- Checker Cars offer taxis from Bristol Airport. The journey should take around 30 minutes
- Further travel information is available from the Bristol Airport website

Bristol Youth Hostel accommodation*
http://hosts-international-bristol.com/ The HOST programme is open to international students and business visitors and would be economically viable if you wish to stay for a week or more (perhaps take in the sites of Bristol, Bath and the South West) as it is more cost effective.
